Lessons
I offer remote piano and keys lessons to students of all ages and skills levels all over the world!
About Me
I have 18 years of experience as a pianist. I teach students as young as 6 to as young-at-heart as 100. I am happy to work with students at all levels of experience and skill.
My first ten years of playing revolved around mastering the great works of classical piano. At age 16 I dove headlong into jazz. Modern jazz emphasizes not only piano but also organ, electric piano, and synthesizers, and I am skilled with these instruments as well. When I’m not teaching lessons, I can be found playing rock-jazz-funk fusion with the bands Starsign and Sweater Weather.
I studied piano and composition at the University of California, San Diego, under the mentorship of the Grammy award-winning Kamau Kenyatta. While at UC San Diego, I received the Southern California Jazz Society award for best jazz composition. My compositions for the band Starsign earned us a nomination for best jazz album at the 2024 San Diego Music Awards. My first album made it onto Wicked Sound’s list of best jazz albums of 2021.
My Teaching Approach
My teaching philosophy is simple: Making music should make you happy. There is a reason why we call it “playing music” rather than “working!” For this reason, I view it as my job to make our lessons–and your practice exercises–fun and rewarding.
